Twitter has become one of the most successful startups that have managed to make it big in the ever improving social net. They have however become a larger target for malware makers or hackers, who capitalize on the sheer number of people that can be hit in one go that takes almost no time to accomplish. The micro-blogging site is founded on the very much secure framework of Ruby that is already robust on it’s own. Read the rest of this entry »

That’s according to Microsoft which has stuck to their deadline for their most stable and most used operating system platform. The OS is set to go offline with some sales allowed for laptops that have been made between HP and the software giant from Redmond as they have already set quota’s for manufacturing of units that cannot support Vista’s demanding requirements the more so for Win 7. The successor to the much failed Vista series of Operating systems has been announced along with several launches Microsoft plans for the year. Their own search engine, Bing has just been released but it still is too early to tell as to it’s progress or success. It is getting traffic or use but many experts say this is merely due to the initial efforts of advertising and of course, the ever present curiosity of people who jump into everything that is new on the internet. For one, nobody really knows beyond Microsoft’s official reports and scattered information from beta testers around the world – the final version will be the basis for the final verdict. Although people are somewhat hopeful that Internet Explorer 8 will at least be up to par with it’s contemporaries like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and even Opera, as the Windows’ default browser has long been frowned upon for its instability, resource hogging, and general inefficiency and slow speed.

With easier to use parental controls, as well as a sleeker, more elegant look and user friendly interface, Microsoft also believes that IE8 will perform and browse considerably faster than any other browser – although again, that is something we will all have to see when the final version is released sometime in March of this year.

Microsoft is fast-tracking the development of the next generation of their Windows Operating System mainly due to the failure of their last release Vista which flopped. many of those who jumped onto the Vista bandwagon soon opted to downgrade to the more stable XP platform. There are rumors that XP’s support will be expanded for a few more years according to HP, the largest PC and Laptop manufacturer in the world who has an agreement to continue selling certain products installed with XP. Is this a sign of Microsoft losing step with their next OS?

Are people actually clicking less on risky online sites or is it the search engines themselves taking them out of the list?
The investigation, conducted by McAfee(R) SiteAdvisor(TM), studied the five major U.S. search engines (Google, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, Ask) and found that the overall chance of clicking through to a risky site declined by 12.0%. Still, McAfee estimates that consumers click through to risky sites more than 268 million times each month.
“It’s good to see that clicking on search engine results has gotten modestly safer,” said Chris Dixon, director of strategy, McAfee SiteAdvisor. “But when almost one of 12 sponsored links still clicks through to a risky site, there remains significant room for continued improvement.”
Whatever the reason for the declining percentage, whether it be the user being more vigilant or the search engines taking care of what they list, we hope it will even get smaller next year.

Webroot has an online back up service. It is a better option than most of online storage services. It lets you back up your files as well as it is file sharing capable. There are a number of online storage services available. Usually backing up 2GB does not cost you anymore. Others offer back up for a fee. This is most effective for people who require much more back up space to keep their vital information secure. Webroot is one service that really keeps up to the expectations of its clients. It offers different levels of data storage. It is most important to note that, Webroot encrypts your files and requires the users to enter passwords so as to keep data theft away. While Webroot may cost you a bit, it helps to know that your files are secure.

This weekend culminates the 20th year of the existence of the Internet Worm. The very first, major worm that proliferated on the Internet through infection. Even though the internet has evolved into something much more complex, worms are still destructive, ever more complicated than the first worms that littered the net. It still is a headache for system administrators. Though it hasnt gone on headlines over the years but the worms are far too difficult to repair now than two decades ago. Robert Tappan Morris launched in 1988, the very first worm in the form of an application designed to count the total number of systems on the internet at that time. It was created to propagate across Unix systems by using certain system vulnerabilities in how r-services authenticate internet connections. Due to a bug in its design, the Worm propagated more than the necessary attempts. It made the infected computers much more slower because of resource usage. Morris was caught eventually. The worms that followed were destructive as ever, the Melissa, I Love You viruses made headlines due to the fact that it hit critical institutions in the US.
